Last night, April 9, 2026, Bloomberg reported — citing sources close to the company — news of Stefano Gabbana’s resignation as chairman of Dolce&Gabbana. Alfonso Dolce would reportedly remain at the group’s operational helm.
The news quickly made the rounds of the web, but almost all the headlines stopped in the middle: “Stefano Gabbana resigns from Dolce&Gabbana,” without explaining what he is resigning from. As a result, many believed it was a final farewell to the brand, when instead it was an internal reorganization of corporate positions.
Today the historic Italian fashion house founded by Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce in 1985 broke its silence with an official statement, also relaunched by MFF. In the document, the group confirms the co-founder’s exit from corporate positions: “The Dolce&Gabbana group, as part of a natural path of organizational and governance evolution, confirms that Stefano Gabbana has resigned as of January 1, 2026 from his positions in the companies Dolce & Gabbana Holding Srl, Dolce & Gabbana Trademarks Srl and Dolce & Gabbana Srl.”
However, an important clarification comes soon after, clarifying the perimeter of the decision and extinguishing any hypothesis of a creative departure. In fact, the statement stresses that Stefano Gabbana will continue to be fully involved in the fashion house’s stylistic process: “This resignation has no influence on the creative activities carried out for the group by Stefano Gabbana himself,” thus reaffirming the continuity of his role on the creative front. Therefore, this is not a farewell to the brand, but an internal reorganization that separates formal governance tasks from creative direction, confirming the brand’s desire to continue the stylistic continuity that has always distinguished it while evolving its managerial structure.
