We were among the lucky few to get a sneak peek at Charli XCX’s new album, *Music, Fashion, Film*; and even though we can’t reveal too much, there’s one thing we can say: it’s a great album. Because for this project, Charli decided to go all out—but always in her own way. She isn’t chasing virality at all costs, but has chosen to showcase the more personal side of her music, surrounding herself with some of the biggest names in contemporary culture. You can already tell from the cover, which brings together Martin Scorsese, Marc Jacobs, and John Cale—each representing one of the three arts that give the album its title. This is further confirmed by the album’s sole guest appearance, featuring David Cronenberg on the closing track, “No One Lasts Forever.” The title alone hints at the tone of the reflection: a dialogue on time, memory, and permanence—themes Charli had already begun to explore in the wake of the global and one-of-a-kind phenomenon that was *Brat*.
And the new music video also seems to bring us back to Cronenberg. Among the big names involved in the project is Vincent Cassel, the lead actor in *The Shrouds: Buried Secrets*, the Canadian director’s latest film. It’s a choice that almost seems to bring things full circle. The actor was spotted on the set of the “Camera” music video, filmed in Kent, alongside Charli XCX. For the shoot, the singer sported two decidedly cinematic looks: the first consisting of a light blue satin shirt paired with black capri pants featuring lace details, and the second a loose-fitting, masculine-cut white shirt worn over lingerie. These choices and images foreshadow the sophisticated and intimate aesthetic of a project destined to make waves far beyond the world of music.
