As if time had never passed. The long night of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” took us back a bit, even though it is indeed 20 years since the first chapter of a film that inevitably won the hearts of millions and millions of fans around the world. But there are films that somehow live on forever, or indeed gain further strength with time. Perhaps this is why, upon the announcement of the film’s sequel, the wave of affection was overwhelming.
But the time for waiting is over, and yesterday, Monday, April 20, 2026, the film’s international premiere was staged in New York City, with a long list of guests, yes, but especially with the stars of the beloved film. Starting with Anne Hathaway, wearing a creation in the shade of red by Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquière, followed by Meryl Streep, also in red, but in Givenchy FW26 by Sarah Burton. Andy, Miranda, Emily, and Nigel. It’s strange to repeat, but it’s all true. Because the Fab Four of fashion have come together.
And indeed, Emily Blunt was not to be missed, looking sumptuous and fluffy in her SS26 couture gown by Schiaparelli, with a structured champagne-colored pleated chiffon maxi skirt and sculptural gold bustier. She arrived with husband John Krasinski in a classic black velvet suit with bow tie and jeweled brooch. Neither did Stanley Tucci, in a classic suit with black velvet jacket and tailored pants.
Unforgettable old acquaintances are joined by highly appreciated newcomers. Like Lady Gaga, already the author with Doechii of “Runway,” a song featured on the film’s soundtrack. This summer we had seen her in Milan just for the filming, and this evening she showed up on the red carpet at Lincoln Center, opting for a classic and chic look by archival Saint Laurent. A FW16 dress designed by then creative director Hedi Slimane, with a slinky silhouette and strapless sweetheart neckline. In very few words? A timeless black dress.
But also like Simone Ashley, who wore a high-low dress in green satin by Prada, with a strapless design, mini skirt in the front and extra lengths in the back, and silver-colored pointed pump shoes on her feet. Or like the legendary Lucy Liu, who sported a black lace naked dress with precious embroidery, and cool dad Justin Theroux, who wore a dark gray tailored suit with a double-breasted jacket with concealed buttons.
Not only the most anticipated faces of the film, but also a long list of guests. There were many who did not want to miss the eagerly awaited event, starting with the alter ego of Miranda Priestly, director of Runway, or perhaps simply one of the most feared and beloved characters in the fashion world, who seems to have partly inspired the famous role played by Streep. We are talking about Anna Wintour, who for the evening wore a long dress with multicolored pleated stripes, paired with a structured dark blue satin overcoat. All the way to Marc Jacobs, who unveiled a cameo of his own in the film, sporting his signature outfit of a black Chanel bouclé jacket, white T-shirt and denim; Heidi Klum, in a wide sage green pleated long dress with cut-out details on the sides; and Dylan Sprouse in the company of his wife Barbara Palvin. The former in a classic black suit, while Barbara sported a fringed midi skirt with bangs revealing her legs, paired with a more institutional look above, with a blazer and white shirt.
