Pieter Mulier’s first day at Versace: a new era begins today for the fashion house

As of today, July 1, 2026, Pieter Mulier is officially Versace’s new Chief Creative Officer. The designer himself marked the beginning of this new chapter by sharing an image on social media of a marble Medusa head—the brand’s quintessential symbol—accompanied by the simple caption “First Day.” A minimalist yet highly symbolic post, it marks the start of his journey at the creative helm of the brand, which joined the Prada Group this year and is poised to embark on a phase of profound renewal.

Mulier’s arrival marks one of the most significant appointments in the fashion world in recent years. As we’ve noted several times in recent months, the Belgian designer is leaving Alaïa after successfully leading its creative revival, winning over critics and the public alike with a vision that blends rigor, sensuality, and the highest standards of tailoring. Prior to that, his career was closely tied to that of Raf Simons, for whom he served as the lead collaborator for over twenty years, accompanying him during his stints at Jil Sander, Dior, and Calvin Klein.

Expectations for him are inevitably high. Following the Prada Group’s acquisition of Versace, the fashion house is called upon to strengthen its position in the luxury sector, highlighting its heritage without sacrificing a contemporary aesthetic. The choice of Mulier seems to address this very need: a creative leader capable of respecting the DNA of the brands he leads, reinterpreting it with sensitivity and consistency.

His work, however, will not be visible right away. As confirmed by Prada Group management, Pieter Mulier’s first collection for Versace will not be shown until early 2027, likely during Milan Fashion Week in February, which is dedicated to the Fall/Winter 2027–28 season. The group has decided to give the designer the time he needs to immerse himself in the fashion house’s archives and develop a long-term vision, avoiding a rushed debut. 2027 will also bring another major comeback: that of Atelier Versace, the house’s haute couture line, which will return to the calendar after years of absence. This is one of the key elements of the relaunch strategy pursued by the Prada Group, alongside a streamlining of the product offering and a greater focus on the brand’s premium positioning, product quality, and full-price distribution.

For now, then, Mulier’s debut consists of an image and two words posted on social media. But the spotlight is already on 2027, when the designer will present his vision for Versace. That will be the moment when the industry can finally see how one of the most acclaimed creatives of his generation will interpret the future of the historic Medusa fashion house.
