A project with at its center the story of Kerri Strug, a famous and historic American gymnast who won gold in the artistic gymnastics team competition at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The direction? Entrusted to Gia Coppola, or rather, no. To Cate Shortland and with a screenplay by Ronnie Sandahl. The main character? Millie Bobby Brown, who would return to work with Netflix after the unparalleled success of Stranger Things. But none of this will be happening.
Because in recent hours rumors have been swirling about the actress’s departure from the drama film about this story, the working title of which would be “Perfect,” but more importantly about Netflix’s decision to drop the production entirely. Making this known is Variety, which recalls how the “Perfect” project was announced last September, with Brown supposed to produce the film with her production company PMCA, in collaboration with Nik Bower of Riverstone Pictures and Thomas Benski of Magna Studios, who were chosen as lead producers. But differences over creative direction led the actress to opt out.
Then Deadline, which exclusively revealed how Netflix has decided that “the sports drama “Perfect” will no longer go ahead after star Millie Bobby Brown left the project.” A choice that thus halts the production planned to start in the summer and thus will not see Kerri Strug’s story told in a film project, which has been highly anticipated in recent months.
