With their NBA championship victory, the Knicks brought a trophy back to New York City that had been missing for over 50 years—53 years, to be exact—of complete drought, despite the many hopes that often proved in vain. Now, however, it is time for the Big Apple’s team to celebrate its triumph, and that is exactly what happened during the parade held on the streets of the city on the night of June 18–19, 2026 (Italian time).
It was a triumphant parade attended by all the team’s most die-hard fans, including, of course, Timothée Chalamet and Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Mayor Mamdani, in particular, chose to pair a classic suit with a Knicks tank top for the occasion, to pay tribute to the NBA champions and ensure that even a public figure like himself would blend in seamlessly with the celebrations.
The parade, which began near Battery Park and headed toward City Hall, was the first in the history of the Knicks, who, upon reaching the mayor, were also presented with the keys to the city.
“The Knicks didn’t just win for New York—they won as New York,” Mamdani himself said, as reported on the New York City Government’s official website, “What is New York if not your back against the wall, a dream that seems out of reach, a rent you don’t know how you’ll ever pay?” he adds. “What is New York if not 99.6% of the world against you? And who are New Yorkers if not people who hear those odds and smile? Who look at a 0.4% chance of success and ask, ‘Why are you giving me a head start?’” This is our city. This is our team. For 53 years, we’ve watched. For 53 years, we’ve waited. Now we’ve won.”
By his side, as usual, was his wife, Rama Duwaji, who has been hailed as a true style icon ever since her husband’s victory was announced. Dressed in Knicks colors and merchandise, Rama—as reported by Page Six —sported “a custom dress made from NBA Finals merchandise T-shirts, courtesy of downtown designer Miss Claire Sullivan.”
