Its name is THE AZURE BLUE and it will be one of the main protagonists of Christie’s upcoming Magnificent Jewels auction, to be held live at Rockefeller Center on June 9. It is an exceptional 31.62-carat pear-shaped fancy blue diamond and a masterpiece of rarity that establishes it as the largest of its kind ever offered at auction.
The sale estimate? According to the auction house it could be between $6.5 and $8.5 million, confirming it as one of the most important fancy blue diamonds to appear on the market in recent years. And the specifications confirm this, also showing extremely rare size, clarity and hue for diamonds in this category. As the auction house explains, it is classified by the Gemological Institute of America as a natural color, fancy blue, potentially Internally Flawless. Also making it one of the most significant diamond specimens in recent years is its size. Mounted elegantly on a ring, the diamond stands out for its exceptional color uniformity, placing it among the finest specimens of its type.
Its appearance at auction marks a significant moment for this category, given the reduction in global supply and a growing demand from collectors that has allowed the market for high-quality colored diamonds to experience unprecedented growth.
Claibourne Poindexter, jewelry manager for the Americas at Christie’s, comments, “With its extraordinary color, exceptional size and elegant shape, The Azure Blue is a rare masterpiece of nature. As the largest Fancy Blue diamond ever offered at auction, Christie’s is honored to present this extraordinary stone to a new generation of collectors this June.”
