A historic Milanese cinema is coming back to life after being closed for 20 years. We are talking about Cinema De Amicis, a space in the heart of Milan closed to the public since 2002 and ready to reopen today with a new function: hosting the headquarters of Kruso Art, an auction house that aims to transform it into a creative hub dedicated to art and collecting. The project stems from a redevelopment of an iconic place of the city’s historicity until the early 2000s, when great classics of international cinema were screened inside.
The renovation, overseen by the Modourbano studio, maintained the original structure of the building, distributed on three floors for about 780 square meters in total , preserving both the stalls area and the balcony of the former movie theater, now converted into exhibition spaces. The opening of the new location marks a step in the renewal path undertaken by the Milanese fashion house in recent months, including rebranding and management strengthening. The goal is to consolidate the auction house’s presence in a changing art market and expand its audience of collectors and enthusiasts. The first opening is set for April 15, with the debut of the contemporary art auction “CIAK SI COLLEZIONA: the contemporary art of tomorrow.” The auction will feature 54 lots from a private collection, collected over time by a single collector.
Among the major works in the catalog is De la cécité, mais/moi/je te/vois (1994-2004) by Rémy Zaugg, estimated between 25,000 and 30,000 euros. Also for sale are Stooge (2004) by Markus Oehlen, an exponent of the German Neuen Wilden, and INFINITE BETWEENS: Reality Between. Phase 1 by Darren Almond, a work born from a film project made along the route between China and Tibet. On the Italian side, instead, E il cielo è sempre più blu (2013) by Giuseppe Stampone stands out, made with the artist’s characteristic Bic pen stroke. The auction also marks the debut of Jacopo Antolini as the new head of the auction house’s modern and contemporary art department. With more than two decades of experience in the field, Antolini will also have the task of coordinating the activities of the different departments. Auctions dedicated to ancient art, 20th-century design and decorative arts, jewelry and watches, luxury fashion, numismatics, philately, antique books, wines and spirits, as well as collectible cars and memorabilia, will also be on the calendar at the new location. Alongside traditional live sales, digital formats and private negotiations are also planned.
