Especially for Marvel fans, who have finally been able to enjoy the new Spider-Man movie in theaters—more specifically, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” It marks the start of a new chapter for one of the world’s most beloved superheroes, following the extraordinary global success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” four years ago. A new chapter that shows Peter Parker, now an adult living in complete solitude, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. He continues to fight crime in New York, but as a “stranger”—or nearly so. A change that has sparked a wave of love.
The one for Spider-Man? Sure. But above all, the one for the actor playing him. In this case, Tom Holland, who’s now “in charge” of the role for four movies—and who knows for how much longer. But while the usual rumors continue about the possibility that this might be his final installment, what fans are interested in is sharing their enthusiasm for what they’ve just seen in theaters. Only a few days have passed since the previews and the worldwide theatrical release, but the very first results look excellent. Let’s start with the facts: over $50 million in preview weekend box office receipts alone—the third-highest opening weekend of all time in the U.S. and Canada. These numbers inevitably reflect the buzz building around the film.
Given that so many people on social media have shared their opinions after watching it, and those opinions seem to be very much in line with one another: there’s a darker tone, there’s an absolutely fascinating story, and Tom Holland is at the top of his game. There’s also the feeling that maybe *Brand New Day* is the best *Spider-Man* movie ever. And above all, that Holland is also the best Spider-Man ever. Of course, enthusiastic reviews can turn sour very quickly, but even on Rotten Tomatoes, the scores are extremely high: 91% on the Tomatometer and 98% on the Popcornmeter. So, who’s right?
