This season, jewelry has embraced a less is more approach, and the 98th Academy Awards was no exception: the sober turn took full hold on the Oscars red carpet. By sobriety, however, we do not mean discretion in terms of preciousness: all the jewelry sported was of immeasurable value. Rather, what changed was the design and proportions, which were more refined, essential, and delicate than in previous seasons. Purposeful pieces, devoid of excess but able to make their mark with elegance.

The statement necklace typically the star of the red carpets was ubiquitous, but it was the choker that emerged as the signature style of the evening, embellishing the necks of many actresses. Among the most iconic were the emeralds and mint green tourmalines model by Sabyasachi worn by Ginnifer Goodwin, the platinum and yellow gold diamond offering by Tiffany & Co. chosen by Gwyneth Paltrow, and the diamond jewelry by De Beers London worn by Chase Infinity.

The big necklaces also leaned toward drama, while maintaining a sophisticated balance-Jessie Buckley with high jewelry by Chanel, Rose Byrne with a Taffin high jewelry-style creation with desert diamonds, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas along with Anne Hathaway with spectacular Bulgari pieces. Kate Hudson, on the other hand, chose a rare 41-carat green diamond by Garatti, with a reported value of $35 million.

Minimal earrings were another key element, often worn without a necklace to maintain a clean focus on the face. Kirsten Dunst opted for Art Deco earrings with diamonds by Fred Leighton, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for Swarovski pendants, while Emma Stone chose Repossi earrings and ear cuffs that rose elegantly along the ear.

The brooch trend continues to show no signs of slowing down, as we have extensively featured. Among the most interesting interpretations, Damson Idris created a custom-made model for his Didris brand, Michael B. Jordan wore a series of David Yurman brooches, and Channing Tatum a Tiffany & Co. version inspired by the famous Bird on a Rock model.

Men also had room to express themselves through high-end watchmaking, with Rolex sponsoring the edition. Shaboozey wore a diamond-encrusted Chopard model, Omega graced the wrists of Amy Madigan and Robert Downey Jr. while Cartier was chosen by Jacob Elordi and Paul Mescal. Rather than piling on excess, the Oscars, perhaps the biggest showcase of the awards season, focused on a focused and conscious idea of adornment-a style strategy well understood by the brands, whose images from the red carpet immediately resonate around the world.
