Hermès’ Le Petit Sac will be fashion girls’ next obsession

When it comes to handbags, and even more so to luxury handbags, Hermès is undoubtedly one of the first names that come to mind. Often, however, the collective imagination focuses exclusively on the Birkin and Kelly models, forgetting the many creations of the maison that has made leather goods its hallmark, evolving from the famous horse saddles to collections of clothing and accessories that embody the most authentic luxury.

Get ready, though, because soon you will start seeing on the arm of your favorite it-girls another icon signed by the French maison. It’s called Le Petit Sac, and as the name suggests, it’s a compact-sized bag that doesn’t give up on functionality. The design is essential and refined: a slim silhouette, soft, rounded lines and distinctive details such as the elegant buckles inspired by the famous Hermès H, applied on both handles.

Presented during the FW25 fashion show, Le Petit Sac is already destined to become one of the most desired accessories of the season. On the maison’s Italian website, it is offered in the sophisticated shade Rouge H, a deep burgundy made from Box Calf leather, one of Hermès’ most iconic workmanships. The name comes from the English “box” tanning technique, a savoir-faire that gives the leather a smooth, shiny and particularly elegant surface. Used by the maison since the 1920s, this workmanship is prized for its ability to bring out deep colors and rich character.

Alongside this version, we also find the model in the Nata shade, made from Mysore kid leather. This leather takes its name from the city of Mysore, in southern India, from which it originates, and is immediately recognizable by its characteristic grain, obtained through a special knurling process that involves rolling the leather on itself, grain against grain, to orient its texture. Depending on the process, it is possible to obtain finer lines or a more pronounced grain. Introduced into Hermès collections in the 1990s, Mysore kidskin is now one of the most popular leathers for its lightness, softness, and durability.
