Ferrari with Hypersail opens a new chapter: the revolutionary monohull has already won everyone over

It may be that speed is in the blood and DNA of a brand that more than any other represents the history of Made in Italy in the world. Ferrari is not only dream cars and victories upon victories in the greatest championships, but it is much more: a fashion brand? Not only. A glorious racing stable? Even more. From now it enters the world of sailing with an experimental project, or rather, with a very specific project presented in these days during Milan Design Week. We are talking about Ferrari Hypersail, a revolutionary prototype of a 100-foot ocean racing monohull.

Designed to fly stably on three points of contact, the website says: its distinctive concept connects one of the foils to a canting keel, while stability is provided by the rudder and, alternately, by the two side foils. Technical terminology that will be of interest mostly to enthusiasts, but leaves everyone in agreement when faced with the vision of the prototype: magniloquent, with distinctive markings that pay homage to the history of the Prancing Horse. From today fast not only on the road and track, but also on water.

In the livery of the 100-foot flying ocean monohull, unveiled in the city of Milan, innovation, aerodynamics and design research coexist, defining a new frontier in ocean navigation. The Ferrari Design Studio wanted to create a link between Hypersail’s future-oriented design and the brand’s aesthetic history, thanks to Giallo Fly, a color that represents Ferrari’s second soul. It was first adopted on a Ferrari 275 GTB, the first yellow Ferrari in history, giving birth to a hue destined to become a legend, on the intuition of Fiamma Breschi, widow of driver Luigi Musso.

Fly yellow not by chance: for Hypersail, in fact, the word “fly” connects directly with the specificity of the boat. And then gray, which becomes Hypersail, characterizing the boat not only as an aesthetic choice, but also to express the lightness and sense of performance of the material in which it is made, carbon.

An eye-catching yet uniform and functional contrast, as the Cavallino explains in a statement, “Applied to the cabin, foils and broadside lines, yellow recalls the styling cues of the Cavallino Rampante’s most famous cars, bringing out strongly the brand’s DNA and recalling, in the clear color distinction, the Ferrari 512 BB, the first example of an ‘integrated’ livery,” it reads.

The Hypersail project will be narrated from today, Wednesday, April 22, to April 26 during Milan Design Week, in an exhibition itinerary inside the Ferrari Flagship Store in Milan and through the Hypersail installation-lighthouse: an exclusive sculptural installation signed by Ferrari Design Studio on the main terrace of HIGHLINE Milano, in the heart of Milan.
