This morning the awakening was sweeter than usual. In a Milan that is slowly embracing spring with still not too much conviction, entering the universe of Matthieu Blazy for Chanel was an explosion of joy and beauty that very few other brands can boast at the moment. In fact, we were invited to take a closer look at the latest Fall/Winter 2026 collection, presented in Paris last March 9, and got yet another confirmation of how the maison’s current success is not only justified but absolutely deserved. Blazy is incredibly talented and is rewriting the history of an iconic global brand by bringing a freshness that smacks of wonder, awe and enchantment, combined with an articulate and unique craftsmanship that never veers toward heaviness but always toward a lightness, textural, substantial, yet ethereal, dare we say fairy-like.
The Chanel woman thought of by Matthieu Blazy is a woman happy and content to wear what she wears, but above all eager for life; this seemingly frivolous feeling of joy instead tells us a lot about our time, about a need for escapism that is anything but superficial but aware of how beauty also plays its part in the world. A beauty that speaks to us of knowledge, passion, dedication, inspiration: it is not an end in itself because it reconnects us to fundamental aspects of life, unfortunately increasingly forgotten. And it is in this constant oscillation that we find the magic of the “Blazy Touch” from Chanel: conscious joy and escapism but with feet on the ground. The fairy tales she tells us are not futile narratives, but the fairy tale that becomes salvific, a forward-looking message, a lesson to be treasured for life; her protagonists point upward but remaining anchored to reality, not burning their wings like Icarus but well equipped to fly to somewhere else and always land in the right place.
As we had already seen on the runway, the collection is meticulous, impeccable in its iridescent and precious details. Gowns that emphasize the silhouette through over-the-top workmanship, where flair and experimentation find ample space even in the most institutional designs and typical of the maison’s DNA, acquire new breath, becoming irreverent, impactful, daring while keeping intact that elegance that has always rhymed with Chanel. There is color and romance, there is impalpable chiffon and the thickness of full-bodied and structured fabrics, but above all there is always a note to be discovered, even when you think everything is already visible to the eyes. And here even a sumptuous blazer embroidered with pearls hides an equally precious lining inside, with glittering embroidery that suggests an idea of luxury that is not just ostentation, but a genuine desire for beauty, inside as well as out.
