Not far from Charing Cross and Trafalgar Square, a new work is causing discussion in Britain. We are more precisely in London’s Waterloo Place, where in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, a statue appeared that, according to some, could be traced back to the signature of the famous artist Banksy.
This is reported by the Daily Mail, which discusses an ongoing debate in the United Kingdom around this installation. The work depicts a man marching above a pedestal while holding a flag that covers his face entirely.
The statue is located near Pall Mall, a central street near the Athenaeum Club and the Crimean War Memorial, the tabloid still reports. It is reportedly about 25 meters high and was installed over the course of a single night thanks to pre-assembled modules. Just in time to surprise passers-by on Wednesday morning who inevitably stopped to photograph it, wondering at the same time: whose work is this?
Is it really Banksy’s? Doubt arises not only from the alleged political message, but also because the signature “Banksy” appeared on the bottom of the pedestal, as the BBC also wrote a short while ago. However, the artist has not yet confirmed that he is the author.
Updates are awaited, as they often are, on his Instagram profile. That is, of course, assuming the work is really his, while investigations and speculation about his identity continue to multiply.

The statue that suddenly appeared in Waterloo Place in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, has an author, and of course we know him well. We are really talking about Banksy, who with a video posted on his Instagram profile confirmed what many had already guessed: the signature is indeed his. The artist showed a behind-the-scenes look at the installation of the statue in Pall Mall, and then showed it with evocative footage. As well as inserting as a blooper the reaction of a gentleman who was asked, presumably, if he liked the statue: “No, I don’t like it, I prefer that other statue,” he said pointing to the other monument present behind it. In short, art but mostly irony. In any case, mystery revealed!
