ARKET reinterprets a historic carousel with Laila Gohar for Milan Design Week 2026

History coincides with our most childlike side: the side that leads us to go back with memories, to what makes us feel good. Perhaps this is where Laila Gohar and ARKET started from to devise an installation that will enliven the days of Milan Design Week 2026.

Where? At the Garden of Arts, a location that marks the launch of the new collaboration between the brand and the artist, presented today, April 20, 2026. A partnership that also coincides with Gohar’s debut in ready-to-wear, thanks to the Spring-Summer 2026 collection: 27 pieces that translate his aesthetic into a wardrobe based on layering, designed to suit both everyday wear and special occasions.

As the brand explains, “the work is based on a historical carousel, believed to date back to the late 18th century.” Starting with the original structure, the installation replaces traditional figures with large fruits and vegetables created by Laila Gohar: an encounter between food, play and everyday beauty, shaped through the artist’s theatrical language.

“Defined by scale, placement and a single clear cut that allows for seating, the forms remain otherwise intact, presented as solid, recognizable objects: familiar, everyday elements designed to be shared,” ARKET further explains. The opening is set for today, Monday, April 20, 2026, with the presence of the London Vegetable Orchestra and a workshop to build musical instruments from vegetables, which will enliven the installation – somewhere between an artistic work and an interactive stage. The “Joust” at the Arts Garden will be open to visitors from April 20 to 24, from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
