What Happens at Night: Martin Scorsese’s new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence is officially in production

Apple Original Films has announced the start of filming for What Happens at Night, the highly anticipated new project directed by Martin Scorsese, and also shared a first image from the set. Starring and producing the film are Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, for a collaboration that already promises to be among the most interesting of the season.

Filming is currently underway in the Czech Republic, with the support of the Czech Film Commission, and contributes to the suspended and evocative atmosphere that characterizes the project. Produced by Apple Studios and made in collaboration with STUDIOCANAL, the film in fact moves on a dreamlike and restless register.

The story follows an American couple who travel to a small, isolated, snowy European town with the intention of adopting a child. But what should be a hope-filled journey soon turns into something darker and more ambiguous. The feature film is based on Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name, known for its intimate and subtly disturbing atmospheres. Alongside the two leads, the cast also includes big names such as Patricia Clarkson, Mads Mikkelsen, Jared Harris and Welker White, helping to make the project even more solid and international.

What Happens at Night marks a new collaboration between Scorsese, DiCaprio and Apple Original Films after the success of Killers of the Flower Moon, nominated for 10 Academy Awards. For Jennifer Lawrence, on the other hand, this is yet another chapter in her relationship with Apple, which is already well-established with titles such as Causeway and Bread & Roses, as well as the upcoming project The Wives, which will again see her starring and producing. With a creative team of this level and a story charged with tension and mystery, What Happens at Night already stands as one of the most anticipated titles of the coming years.
