When talking about the great masters of the 20th century, it is impossible not to mention Lucio Fontana: an artist known to most for his cuts, which redefined the boundaries between painting, sculpture and space. He will be the subject of the upcoming documentary film “Lucio Fontana, The Filnal Cut,” produced by Good Day Films and Nexo Studios, directed by Andrea Bettinetti and with narration by Miriam Leone. The list of theaters that will program the film-event will be available soon and pre-sales will open from April 23, and the film will be available on May 25,26 and 27.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Lucio Fontana Foundation, Lucio Fontana, The Final Cut offers an international and comprehensive approach to the figure of the artist, with testimonies from contemporary artists and experts in the field, such as Doug Wheeler, Antony Gormley, Carsten Höller and Alfredo Jaar, as well as archival materials, many of them unpublished and recovered. There will be no shortage of footage of the works housed in the most important museums and collections and focus on the places of his life, allowing us to immerse ourselves in a complete journey into the world and vision of Lucio Fontana, who was able to give life to works ranging from sculptures to ceramics, from environments to architectural interventions, from the famous holes and cuts to his theoretical manifestos.
The documentary takes shape in the places that accompanied the artist’s life: from the studio in Comabbio, through postwar Milan, the streets of Rosario in Argentina where the artist was born in 1899, the School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires where he taught in the 1940s to the major museums in Italy and Northern Europe that understood and hosted the artist’s exhibitions and the first major exhibition dedicated to him in New York at the Martha Jackson Gallery, ending back in the family home in Comabbio where he died in September 1968.
