Probably those who dreamed and hoped for a return of John Galliano after his farewell to Maison Margiela back in December 2024 would not have expected the announcement that arrived today, March 17, 2026. The celebrated British designer, a true icon in fashion history, has in fact signed a two-year partnership with Zara that will see him “rewrite” the brand’s archives, bringing Galliano back to the atelier after a two-year absence from the catwalks.
“Recently I have been curating some of Zara’s most recent archives. The idea is that I’m going to rewrite them,” Galliano told Vogue, explaining how the project grew out of conversations with Marta Ortega PĂ©rez, president of Inditex (Zara’s parent company) and daughter of founder Amancio Ortega. “I got to know Marta through MOP, her foundation, and the wonderful exhibitions she organizes,” he added.
“I’m super excited, because it’s not something I’ve ever done before; I’m stimulated by the novelty, the excitement, the process itself,” Galliano stressed. “I also have to remind my team every day: no, it’s not this, and it’s not that. We are rewriting. It’s been a lot of fun, and I think it’s an extremely positive project right now, really creatively sustainable, and that interests me so much.”
