Talented, successful, in demand both on and off the set. These and many other characteristics unite Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet. Two actors who, though different, nevertheless seem at times to share a common destiny and an invisible thread that, according to many, almost represents a sign. A kind of passing of the baton from one generation to another, a legacy handed down in the Olympus of Hollywood.
Often compared for the rapidity with which their careers exploded, what the two actors could be called similar for also lies in the complexity and intensity of the roles they play on the big screen. Thus, Timothée’s defeat on the last Oscar night-as well as that of Leo himself-would only increase the comparisons between the two, who are forced to fight again and again for the achievement of the most prestigious goal.
Yes, because despite his undoubted talent, out of eight total nominations DiCaprio has managed to win only one statuette; while Timothée, already in the running in 2018 thanks to his role in Call Me by Your Name, is still trying to reach what for many represents the highest point in an actor’s career.
Sealed by that oh-so-meaningful embrace at the Golden Globes, DiCaprio certainly won’t give way to his young colleague for a long time to come, but he also solidifies the relationship through some “mentor” advice.
“No hard drugs and no superhero movies” would have been the advice given by Leo to Timothée, with the two having already shared the screen in the 2021 comedy, Don’t Look Up. And who knows, we may see them together again in the future, before we find out if the Dune star’s career will really be as successful as that of a movie icon like DiCaprio.
