Harrison Ford and acting as salvation in college days: ‘It changed my life’

In life, obstacles may seem insurmountable. It will have happened to many of us to be faced with situations that seem unmanageable and unsolvable. And the possibility of seeing everything black can sometimes discourage, sometimes lead to stopping. Even one of the legends of world cinema, such as Harrison Ford, experienced this in his college days, but because of one thing he was able to move on and find the motivation to pursue the career that later established him as one of the best actors in the world.

He talked about this on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, Awards Chatter, in the episode released Thursday, April 9, where Ford opened up about mental health and the problems he faced during his formative years as a young man in his college days. He was a student at Ripon College in Wisconsin, and he was not yet aware that what he was experiencing was something more serious than just a difficult time, which he now describes as depression: “I would get up from my single bed, go to the phone, order a pizza, go back to bed and wait for it to come. I would eat it, throw the cartons in the corner and go back to sleep,” Harrison said. “I was more than depressed. I think I was sick. I was sick socially, I was not well psychologically,” he added.

Harrison did not have a great grade point average in college so he looked for a course to improve it, enrolling in a course simply called “Theater.” What he didn’t realize was that during the lectures in this course, participants would then have to intervene in the theatrical performances themselves, as People again explains , which reports excerpts from the interview.

A surprise, which he never imagined could change his life. “They were doing something I didn’t really understand: they were telling stories about life and living, and some of them were exceptional in their ability to understand human behavior. And so I think I simply found my place among storytellers. It really changed my world, it changed my life.”
