For what reason do we go to concerts? To show affection to our favorite artists, of course. To sing the most beautiful songs at the top of our lungs with them. To experience together with other strangers, who become our brothers and sisters for an evening. And then what? Like “and then,” aren’t these things enough for you? No. I mean, they are actually enough for us, but evidently times have changed. Forget the tours with scary setlists, beautiful mashups, killer performances. Or rather, don’t forget them, thankfully they are still there. But amidst the “flab” of live performances by our favorite artists, more and more performers decided it wasn’t enough.
Because social networks in some ways drive everything, and in order to get people talking even more about one’s live show, one needs something to echo. Even beyond the songs. What can we call them? Viral moments? Let’s do it this way. We saw this with RosalĂa recently, with her confessional in the middle of the live show, where one person each night can “vent.” A reference to the spiritual core that the new path taken by the Catalan artist has shown. But it is not only she who has done this. Because it seems that a little bit of all the artists are competing not only for the best concert, but also for the most iconic moment. Sabrina Carpenter, for example, “arrests” during each date an “overly hot” celebrity; Charli XCX welcomes the “Apple Girls”; Drake, for a time, gave away very expensive things to his fans; while Dua Lipa tried her hand at covers dedicated to her host cities and countries.
And Zara Larsson? “Lush Life” experienced a second life thanks to the choreography born onstage with fans, which was immediately picked up, starting a new trend. But there was no shortage of unintended effects: Coldplay, with their “kiss cam,” wanted to celebrate love. And perhaps they did not expect to find themselves in the middle of a corporate-wide adultery case. These are the jokes of fate or viral moments at concerts. More and more present at every live show.
