Launched in 2022 as an independent initiative and a parallel event to Art Basel week, the Basel Social Club has quickly established itself as one of the most interesting and experimental events on the international art scene. More than just an exhibition or a fair, the project functions as a multidisciplinary platform where contemporary art, performance, music, design, gastronomy, and social interaction come together within unusual spaces that have been temporarily repurposed from their original functions. In contrast to the frenetic pace of the art market and the official events that enliven Basel during Art Week, the Basel Social Club offers a more informal, participatory, and immersive experience, transforming abandoned or unused buildings into cultural ecosystems open to the city. <\/p>\n\n
For its fifth edition, scheduled for June 14\u201320, 2026, the project will take place in a disused multi-story office building designed by the architectural firm Diener & Diener, just a few minutes from Basel SBB Central Station. Here, art and everyday life intertwine in a large, temporary laboratory that is constantly evolving. This year\u2019s theme is work and the contemporary office, no longer viewed as a mere place of production but as a space for critical reflection. Once a symbol of growth, efficiency, and progress, the workplace is now undergoing profound changes linked to digitalization, remote work, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence. Through exhibitions, installations, performances, concerts, and culinary projects, the Basel Social Club addresses themes such as productivity, time management, burnout, and the right to rest. The architecture itself becomes an integral part of the curatorial journey. Spanning multiple levels vertically, the project invites visitors to explore a sequence of spaces that reflect on the new geographies of work and the invisible structures that govern contemporary society. Corridors, offices, meeting rooms, utility rooms, and underground parking garages are reinterpreted by the artists, giving shape to a narrative that evokes the concept of the \u201cunderground\u201d\u2014understood both as a place of cultural resistance and as a metaphor for the tensions and contradictions of contemporary capitalism. Throughout the week, the spaces are continually revitalized through site-specific installations, performances, and evening programs that extend late into the night. Alongside this intense activity, a section called \u201cOut of Office\u201d offers areas dedicated to rest, contemplation, and a temporary break from the logic of productivity. Gastronomy, a hallmark of the format since its inception, also plays a central role. From haute cuisine experiences to more accessible offerings developed with local chefs and businesses, food becomes a means of connection and sharing, helping to strengthen the sense of community that is one of the defining features of the Basel Social Club. <\/p>\n\n
