Even a few weeks before I met Charlotte Cardin, The Way We Touch resonated in my headphones more like a mantra than a song. A song with a refined pop soul and at the same time full of contaminations, which more than to a musical genre I would associate with a personality. That of a voice that is clear and precise but at the same time intense, capable of returning an immediate feeling of intimacy. <\/p>\n\n

And Charlotte Cardin is just that, just as her voice describes her. The beauty of this artist is that in her songs you can hear her memories, her story, her voice in the broadest sense of the word. “The song The Way We Touch, I like to say it reminds me of the first love I had for pop music. It stimulates the same parts of my brain,” she told me. And perhaps he expressed better than I did what I meant when I was telling you about the effect this song had on me. <\/p>\n\n

A creative process rooted in childhood and passing through iconic references, in a mix of different but deeply personal inspirations: “My older sister introduced me to a lot of pop music while I was growing up, so we listened to Britney Spears, Spice Girls, Christina Aguilera. Women with very unique voices. We also listened to great vocalists like Pink and Avril Lavigne. I was fascinated by that kind of music, and my song The Way We Touch definitely takes me back to that pop space that I love so much and love to listen to. The saxophone we added in the song gives it a bit of an ’80s vibe. It’s a mix of different inspirations, but it definitely has that pop joy that I grew up with.”<\/p>\n\n

A narrative that also continues in the video: “I like that in the video you can see me getting ready and looking in the mirror. This relationship with the performance, which I used to do with my sister as a child: we would do our makeup and film ourselves, and it was part of the ritual and fun related to music for us.” It almost seems like a dream that the game you played as a child has become your job, I told her. “Yes, I’m very lucky because my job often still makes me feel like I’m playing, it’s really wonderful to be able to do that,” she replied.
