On May 20, 80 years ago, Cherilyn Sarkisian was born. A name that perhaps so does not bring back memories of a well-known character, but which takes on a totally different meaning when reread more simply under the pseudonym Cher. <\/p>\n\n
She initially became known to the general public as part of the musical duo Sonny & Cher-which she started with her future husband Sonny Bono-she achieved her first hit in 1965 with the song I Got You Babe.<\/p>\n\n
After her divorce and in the late 1970s, her career went through a less successful phase until, after studying acting, she landed a part in a film around 1982. Rediscovering herself as a dramatic actress, she won a Golden Globe in ’83 and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Silkwood when, in 1988, she won the Academy Awards for Best Actress thanks to Moonstruck. <\/p>\n\n
