That cinematic aesthetics appear profoundly changed in 2026 compared to the 1990s is, in part, the natural result of a now unstoppable technological evolution. Advances in tools, designed for greater durability, energy efficiency, and ever-higher performance, have inevitably affected the visual language as well. Added to this are factors that are anything but minor, especially on set: the weight of machinery, its maneuverability, and production costs. <\/p>\n\n

As lighting and shooting technologies have changed, it is therefore physiological that the cinematic image has also transformed. Light has become more controllable, more precise, more “clean”-a technical evolution that translates into a different aesthetic. The phenomenon emerges particularly clearly if we look at the recent wave of reboots and remakes, a distinctive feature of the contemporary industry. From the return of Harry Potter to new adaptations of Freaky Friday, to the much-talked-about The Devil Wears Parda, a comparison between the original works and their reworkings highlights a clear visual gap: cooler color palettes, sharper lighting, an almost hyperrealist definition. That warm, slightly blurred halo that seemed to envelop the films of the past in a more “human” dimension now appears almost entirely gone. <\/p>\n\n

The online debate on this aspect in particular is heated. Fans complain about the loss of a certain intangible “quid,” hard to define but immediately perceptible: an emotional quality that seems to have dissolved along with that visual softness. At this point, the more interesting question is not so much about the technology, in my opinion, as it is about us: has our idea of aesthetics changed? Because beyond the tools, what is striking is a clear visual choice. A conscious direction that favors sharper, colder images, as if to accentuate the distance between the viewer and what he or she observes, between the “here” and the “there,” between reality and representation. <\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Perhaps this trend reflects something deeper: a contemporary sensibility marked by disillusionment, in which fiction no longer seeks to blend in with the real, but rather emphasizes its distance. An aesthetic that exposes, that does not soften but defines, a need, perhaps, for reality rather than imagination? This is a possible key to interpretation, one worth dwelling on. <\/p>\n\n
